Founded in 2009 by Susan Wright and David Peden, the club started off in Bishopton Scout hall with mats borrowed from the former Clyde Judo in Inverclyde.
Susan is a 5th Dan who has been involved in Judo for more than 30 years, and has been coaching for the last 20. She is a former World Masters Champion, Commonwealth Masters Champion and British Senior National Teams Champion.
Susan is a Competition Controller, and has run every level of tournament in the UK from beginner festivals to the British Senior Championships. Most recently, Susan worked as Field of Play Manager for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Attaining a Dan grade is a special moment that all judoka will treasure. Whether a lifetime goal or a stop along a longer path, all grades are a product of hard work and dedication to judo. Dan grade promotions deserve to be recognised.
The club is extremely proud of its many members that have that have earned their Dan grade promotions, please see the list below of judoka who have achieved this as members of Clyde Judo Club.

Competition officials and referees play a key role enabling competition between athletes by conducting contests in a fair and safe way. As well as being an enjoyable part of judo, refereeing and officiating helps equip people with life skills such as confidence and decisiveness, these attributes help in many other aspects of their life.
Clyde Judo is actively involved in the British Judo development pathway for both referees and technical officials, with volunteers supporting events at every level from festivals for under 8s to international tournaments.
